About Perth Children's Hospital requirements
Costing $1.2 billion, the Perth Children’s Hospital will replace the existing Princess Margaret Hospital as the State’s dedicated children’s hospital, providing specialist paediatric care for the children and adolescents of Western Australia.
The 298 bed hospital will be WA’s only dedicated children’s hospital and provide care for children from all over the state. As a leading paediatric hospital, it will provide the specialty medical treatment required for the most serious medical cases, as well as secondary services including inpatient and outpatient care and day stay care.
The hospital will feature:
- 298 beds (75% single rooms)
- 31 isolation room
- An 88% larger emergency department
- Outpatient and day-stay capacity
- Parent and family centre and lounges
- Dedicated parent accommodation
- 12 multi-use theatres including an intra-operative MRI and two interventional theatres
- A 10 bed high dependency unit
- Helicopter pad
- 3500m2 of green space
PCH has been designed to be the centrepiece of the Western Australia child health care system and to showcase a hospital for the next century. Gripple suspension systems helped to form a key part of this strategy.
As usual with such a large project, the pressure on timescales was huge. Gripple wire suspension systems played a key part of helping to achieve strict deadlines through the time saving benefits against traditional methods. Contractors can save up to 85% on installation times when using Gripple wire rope kits compared to tradition methods such as threaded rod. Not only is the installation faster, but the requirement for pre-work (such as cutting or filing) is removed.
